We needed old carpet replaced with LVP and hoped to match color to our stairs that extend the same dark cherry color from the lower level. 50Floors TV ad says they’ll bring hundreds of samples with them, but that wasn’t the case for us. Our sales rep brought a single board with about 10-12 colors from the same manufacturer with him, but he did say before his visit that he didn’t believe 50Floors had a close match to our existing engineered hardwood. He suggested using a color LVP that matched the current beige carpet color, suggesting that we go with the light color to brighten the area. I did choose to do so.
Installation was scheduled within a couple of days, so pretty happy about their response. The installer arrived on time on the scheduled day, but his English was somewhat challenged so communication wasn’t as easy as I would’ve liked but that’s kind of expected these days. After pulling up the carpet, the installer found a couple of uneven spots in the subfloor and told me that they would have to be ground down. He put me on his phone with someone from the office to give me a price and get my approval. The cost was $500 for the two small areas but I felt like I didn’t have much of a choice but to approve it. The grinding of both spots took less than 15 minutes and he didn’t have to lug a big machine up the stairs, so I was aggravated that it cost so much. $250 yes. $500, no, but I was stuck.
After installing, he cleaned up his work area for the most part, but there was wood dust on the lower levels from the grinding which I had to clean up. Note that 50Floor will install quarter round molding to cover any gaps left between the flooring and baseboards, but they don’t paint them and apparently they don’t caulk between flooring and other surfaces the flooring might butt up to, like staircase fascia. The items in this paragraph are why I only rated them four stars.
Overall, I was pleased with the installation job, albeit I had to clean up the dust and re-sweep/mop the new flooring a couple of times. Just be aware that you nor they know what’s under the carpet and be prepared for surprises. We went from carpet to LVP, so no surprise that our subfloor had a couple of issues that had to be resolved, but again, $500 was insane for the small areas that had to be corrected. As for the price, it wasn’t bad but that extra $500 hurt. Not counting the $500, we paid just under $2200 for about 200 sf of flooring and that was after all the advertised discounts and some other discounts the sales rep gave us. Their prices are average even with discount.
I’d definitely recommend 50Floors though, especially over a local vendor like Dalton Wholesale Floors in Jasper who couldn’t be bothered to follow through with return calls (even after they sent someone to measure).
